My eBook is almost complete. What layout do you use for an eBook? For example, what font style and text size do you recommend? Do you use text or HTML or both?
Answer: My eBooks have just a regular page size layout. You don't need a special layout for an eBook. Just use a regular Word document. Have your original file as a Word .doc file. This will allow you to save all the formatting and make changes/revisions to the eBook.
After that you have created the MS Word file, make sure you also save your documents in a pdf format. Send the eBook to your customers in pdf format. PDF format can't be modified. Plus, the perceived value of a PDF is much higher than a Word doc.
As far as font style and text size, I really don't have any recommendation. It is up to you. I don't have any specific font or format guidelines. The best thing to do is go check out other eBooks online. Purchase them. Analyze how they formatted their eBooks. Note the type of font and font size they used. Analyze and model their format.
I generally create my eBooks in Arial font. I would recommend using a font size larger than 12 point. Why? The important thing is to make the eBook appealing to their eyes. Your customers will be reading this eBook on their computer so make it easy to read. Create an eBook that doesn't cause eye strain and looks professional.
But make sure not to make your text too big or it will just look like you are trying to fill up space. The customer may perceive too large of font size as a way to provide less information in more pages. They will feel like they didn't get all their money's worth.
Also remember that you will have people from all walks of life reading your eBook.
Question #2: I would like to know what software program you would use to write an eBook.
Answer: I really don't use any special software programs to write an eBook. Since I don't use a special program, I don't have any recommendations. To write my eBooks I just use Microsoft Word. Then when I have completed the eBook, I save it as a pdf. I send the pdf to my customers.
