Unique Or Shared IP Address, What Are The Pitfalls?

I am thinking about getting started by using one of Fat Jack Hosting's shared ip addresses. Then I would switch over to a dedicated server with a unique ip address as I start to build a list and have more available content. What types of issues should I expect if I do it this way? What things can I do to minimize any negative impact?

Answer: You should be fine. There are two things that could possibly happen that would have a negative impact. First of all, if one of the people sharing the ip address with you decides to do some spamming whether it is spamming in the search engines or spamming emails. If it is spamming in the search engines then your ip address could get in trouble too. If it is spamming to emails then your emails could get blocked too. This is why having your own dedicated server with a unique ip address is crucial.

Secondly, sharing an ip address demonstrates that even just one person can affect your whole business. You don't have control over this person. They may do things wrong and not even realize it. They are penalized. since you share the ip address with them then you will be penalized. Your entire business structure is vulnerable if you don't have a unique ip address.

I use a dedicated server with a unique ip address. I spent over $3,000 per month for all my dedicated servers. In fact, I have a dedicated server that backs up one of my other dedicated servers. I just want to make sure that all my bases are covered.

At least you understand where you are going. You realize the importance of a dedicated server and unique ip address. Too often, most people try to cheap out when starting a business online. They make hosting too cheap and this is not the way to run your Internet business. I applaud you for realizing that proper hosting is the foundation of your whole business.

Think about it. Hosting is the basic foundation of your business. Don't skimp on it, even if you think you don't have the budget for it. You can always do other tasks in a cheaper or even free manner, such as article marketing. Article marketing will help you get the traffic you need to your website, in a free to low budget manner. This traffic will then help you start to earn money by building your list and selling your products. So spend money on the proper hosting, it is an investment that is critical to your success.
