This syndrome is usually typified by continuous re checking of everything that has been done. For example, if there was a rather odd shaped mole and you remind yourself that it has to be checked with the doctor check whether the mole is cancerous or not. You make a note of it and seek an appointment with the doctor. However, soon you are back in front of the mirror, checking if the mole has healed . It is almost as if the cancerous growth has stopped because you kept looking at it. Your brain almost begins to think that the mole would get cured only because you are looking at it often . That would make you look at it again and again. The only way you can get out of this is by stopping doing things often. Though difficult initially, it would certainly help if you gradually eased out checking things often. It could be things like, Did I lock the door? to Was the oven off? and Did that important mail go? …so on and so forth. Whenever you feel like checking something, just do something else. In a few days time , you will notice that you will have less of tendency to just check again regularly.
MOVE ON ONCE YOU HAVE CONFIRMED.
2. Postponing things
Procrastination is a habit where you put off things which you are uncomfortable doing. Instead of just completing the task, all you do is get anxious about the task or it could be plain lethargy. It could be as simple a task as checking your bank balance, when you have run an overdraft. It is just that you are scared of looking at your bank balance which has run into an overdraft now. While it is understandable that you do not want to stare at the overdraft, you have to remember that you are the only one who has been responsible for it. The point here is, not to ignore the issue, but to seek it out and find a redressal to it. You have to do a CBA or Cost Benefit Analysis of facing the situation. So, better do it now than later when the situation might be much different.
Here is a wonderful piece of advice: the best way to do things is to do the first thing that you hate in the morning. Once the hard tasks are done away with, you will not procrastinate on the other tasks, which essentially means a great day for you.
THE BEST WAY TO STOP WORRYING IS TO FACE YOUR FEARS HEAD ON.
3. Practice, practice and more practice
Practise makes a man perfect. So goes the saying. But there is something as trying to be too perfect. Too perfect is the case where you rehearse for a public speech for hours but soon after the speech you are feeling mentally drained, even though it did go well. What matters is: were you prepared after a couple of hours of practise or did you drain yourself practising for 10 hours when you were sure you could do well with a couple of hours of practise? Those extra hours could have been used to do something more relaxing .
The best way to get optimum results in least amount of time is to plan the amount of time you will spend on a particular project. This would prevent you from over doing things or spending too much time. However, if you still feel you are under prepared, then just remind yourself of the work that has already been put in. Once you have experienced success, without a large investment in time, then you will trust yourself and your strengths more. That could be a new beginning where the least investment in time gets you the maximum results.
YOUR INSTINCTS MUST BE TRUSTED AND LISTENED TO GAUGE THE EXTENT OF YOUR PREPARATION.
4. Think it over….and over…..and over….
Have you noticed that Women do mull over a problem or a decision again and again? Women are very good at mulling over, or ruminating, about a problem or a decision they have made. People usually ruminate when there is a reality that they cannot accept. It could be a scenario where you have met someone with whom you have hit it off really well. But when you try to set up a follow up meeting, they do not respond back . These are scenarios which usually are ruminated over: to find an answer, or rather searching for a very clear answer as to why they did not ring.
Why do people ruminate ? They do it with a belief that if they keep on ruminating, things will eventually make sense. But they do not recognize the fact that some things simply DO NOT make sense! There is always a limit to what you know, understand or probably control. It is quite important that you do recognize that reality isn t something that you will ALWAYS understand.
There are a lot of people who would say that they are chronic worriers. Well, what is the point in worrying about too many things?
