Pay per click advertising can be one of the most effective ways to market products and services provided you know what you are doing. However there are some challenges that you will encounter. Tip 1: Pick fewer targeted keywords per ad group
The problem with picking a huge list of keywords for a particular ad group is that it usually results in most of them getting inactive status since Google rates those keywords as not being targeted enough. Even Google recommends you stick with less than 20 keywords per ad group. Just make sure the keywords are as targeted as possible as this will help to increase conversion rates.
Tip 2: Make sure landing pages are relevant to keywords chosen
It is very important to make sure that your landing pages contain at least a few of the keywords you selected in your ad group. Make sure you add the keywords naturally and at all cost avoid keyword spamming because it will only get your ads penalized and possibly even get your account suspended.
Also be sure to use unique landing pages, this is particularly important if you are an affiliate marketer so create a review style page that is unique. Remember that Google hates duplicate content so do not just link directly to merchant affiliate sites as this will get your ads penalized and you will not get much traffic.
Tip 3: Use the content network wisely
The content network can be a powerful source of list building in many situations. Remember that content network traffic is not as targeted as direct search traffic however this does not mean that it cannot be profitable. If you can build a subscriber base through cheaper content network clicks then this can be a great way to build long term income for your business since you will be able to sell over and over to the same person over time.
Google allows you to bid as low as you want up to 1 cent per click for content network clicks so check your ads for how much traffic you are getting and then bid less or more depending on the amount of clicks you get from the content network. Also do not forget to specify country selection appropriately in each campaign to make sure that you are getting traffic from the right locations and not from areas where you do not ship your products to.
